Day Four

Chillagoe was a bit chilly this morning, especially since we were all up around the 4am....... All cruise cars were gone by 5am as they had a huge day of about 880km. Rally cars were a bit later leaving, about 6am to begin their journey of 780km.

Dust, dust, and more dust. 95% gravel roads with a few roadhouses dotted along the highway. Now folks, these aren't the kind of roadhouse that have big colourful signs advertising Maccas or Hungry Jacks or Cuppachinos with 15 fuel bowsers to choose from. These roadhouses are very limited in supplies, with 1 or 2 bowsers, and covered in dust.

At the briefing this morning RB very gently reminded all cars and crews of how remote we are, and how demanding the conditions could be, with dust on the highway and travelling on gravel roads, with an enormous amount of traffic. I am pleased to say that the conditions were exactly what RB described, and all cars and crews were in and/or accounted for in Weipa by 8pm.

A couple of cars had minor problems, but all were/will be fixed no worries - some are being fixed by the trusty RACQ man here in Weipa. PC in car C7 has his car booked in with RACQ for 8.30 in the morning to unlock the door, to get the keys out of the ignition. Surely out of 380 people we have a RACQ man here? We just have to find him (he is probably hiding).

Let me assure you everyone is looking forward to a day off, not tomorrow, but the next.

Note from CC:
Everyone on the cruise is happy and 066 is lucky enough to be winning at this stage. With such a long time to go, anything can happen.... and with CC it usually does. Miss Cruise is suffering from sunburn on her face, but lucky enough I have nappy rash cream I am lending her...... No real problems today which is always good news. All looking forward to Seisia.

One car is being towed from Coen to Weipa (car 30), by RACQ. I hope the car makes it as the tow truck looked very.. dodgy.

No photos today - sorry, but apart from dust, there wasn't much to take photos of.

All's well, some mobile service here.

Till next time,
Michelle
